Tour three local farms in our Fruits from the Field Ag Tour! An all-ages appropriate tour, you'll learn about how orchards and wineries operate today as you drive the beautiful countryside of Adams County!
Our tour begins at our own farm, Hollabaugh Brothers! You will take an in-depth look at what it means to be a fruit grower in the 21st century. Adults will explore challenges facing the industry, like immigration, differences between conventional growing and organic growing, ecological footprints and the economy, and much more. Take a handicap-accessible wagon ride through our orchards, sample apple cider, and much more!
The second stop of the Fruit from the Field Tour is at Knouse Fruitlands, where you'll tour their nearly 100-year old historic round barn! Venture to the second floor to get a close-up look of the barn's unique infrastructure and chat with a member of the Knouse family about its rich history.
Next is a superb lunch at Hickory Bridge Farm! Set in a beautiful Pennsylvania barn decorated with hundreds of antiques, your lunch will be prepared from scratch and served family style right on the table. Meals consist of American foods favored by the German settlers of the area and are family recipes. Don't forget to save room for dessert!
Finally, your tour will conclude at Adams County Winery, a truly unique farming experience in the area. Growing seven varieties of grapes on eleven acres, the winery produces 30,000 gallons of wine each year. Enjoy a sample of some of the most popular wines, if you like, and learn all about the process of wine making from fruit to bottle!
Whether you're from Adams County or across the country, this information-rich tour will be sure to teach you all about the second largest industry in the county.
